Removing Redeye in Photoshop CS using the Channel Mixer…

In Photoshop CS you can achieve an excellent red eye reduction by using Photoshop’s channel mixer. The good thing about doing redeye removal this way is that you can achieve exactly the same results in previous versions of Photoshop should you not own CS.

I have also composed a video tutorial on how to remove redeye, there are two methods explained, this can be located
on the downloads page

The above redeye was removed just buy using the channel mixer, as you can see it produces excellent results.

1, Load Photoshop CS and open the image that contains the redeye fault.
2, At the bottom right of the Photoshop CS window click the “Create new fill or adjustment layer” see illustration below
3, In the Channel Mixer window that opens make sure that the Output Channel is set to red. Now set all other parameters as in the illustration below…when you are done click ok.
4, Still working in the channel mixer layer you now have to set the foreground colour to black, to do this press D on your keyboard followed by X, the colours palette located in the tool box should now look like the illustration below.
5, Now press ALT + BACKSPACE on your keyboard, as soon as you do this you will see the image return to its original state and the redeye has once again returned…do not panic, this is normal.
Now set the foreground colour to white, to do this press X on your keyboard or just click the “Switch Foreground and Background Colours) arrow located on the tool box next to the foreground and background colours.
6, Select the brush tool from the toolbox or press B on the keyboard. Zoom in on the redeye with the navigator, this can be found on the top right of the Photoshop window. Click the (Brush Preset Picker) located in the tool bar and choose a brush with a feathered edge and one that is slightly bigger than the redeye itself. See the two illustrations below for examples.
7, Move the brush over the redeye and click on it. Now you will see that the red is being replaced by the colour of the channel mixer, click 2 or 3 times depending on how severe the redeye is. If the corrected red eye still looks a little off colour all’s you have to do is double click the Channel Mixer layer and then adjust the green and blue sliders in the channel mixer window until you get the correct colour. See illustrations below for information. Once you are happy with the result click Ok.
congratulations
